Firefox 3 is Comming!

May 21, 2008

Almost there, Firefox 3 release candidate 1 is ready to download. Some say that some of the add-ons are not supported in this release candidate. Due to this compatibility issue, I’m waiting for the final version to come. According to some articles, Firefox 3 is much lighter and faster. Here is excerpt:

Mozilla VP of engineering Mike Schroepfer claims that Firefox 3 is 9.3x faster than Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and 2.7x faster than Firefox 2 in terms of JavaScript performance. In terms of Gmail message load time, he claims Firefox 3 is 6.8x faster than IE7 and 3.8x faster than Firefox 2. And he says Firefox 3 beats Apple’s Safari, which is also faster than Firefox 2.

Hope that memory leaking issue gets resolved in this release. Here are some articles about Firefox3:

Sainshand, Mongolia

May 19, 2008

I’m planning to visit Mongolia this summer with my wife. Since the last visit was summer of 1994, it’s been 14 years. I’m so excited to see how things are changed over a decade. City of Sainshand is first time for me. Based on the picture above, it looks very challenging place to live for westernized people like me. But I’m thrilled and excited to go there.

Sainshand (Сайншанд) is the capital of Dornogovi Province (Eastern Gobi desert). Dornogovi is in the driest part of Mongolia, 109,000 sq km with population of 25,210 (2000 census), 19,548 (2006). Most are nomads who live there part of the year and on the desert the rest. From Ulaanbataar (Улаанбаатар), the capital of Mongolia, it takes about 12 hours by train.

Resetting Mac Book/Mac Book Pro’s SMC

May 16, 2008

System management control (SMC) is responsible for power management of the computer. It controls backlighting, hard disk spin down, sleep and wake, some charging aspects, trackpad control, and some input/output as it relates to the computer sleeping. If you are having not turning on, not waking from sleep, not charging the battery, or not recognizing the AC Adapter issues, it may worthwhile to reset SMC. I brought my Mac Book Pro to Apple store because of display wake up issue. Only thing they had done is SMC reset. If you are using Mac Book, Mac Book Pro follow the following steps to reset below:

  1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
  2. Disconnect the AC Adapter and remove the computer’s battery.
  3. Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then release the button.
  4. Reconnect the battery and AC Adapter.
  5. Press the Power button to restart the computer.
